The Tories in Scotland published this tweet in response to the new SNP -Green political partnership.
Our vital North Sea sector is under threat from this SNP-Green coalition of chaos.
The SNP are now against future oil and gas projects - and the Greens want to shut the industry down now and throw away the 100,000 jobs it supports. pic.twitter.com/6YAtlnMi0Q

Let's leave this broadly welcome tie-up aside for the moment. What I am interested in is the Tory message here.
That message is loud and clear, and is that when it comes down to it there is no Tory interest in climate change. All they want is business as normal; more exploitation of fossil fuels whatever the cost; the maintenance of the ultra-destructive status quo; and the continuation of the current business hierarchy of power that is based upon abuse of the planet for private gain.
So much for all the words that might be said around COP 26. The reality is that that strategic confusion around that Summit is based on one simple fact, which is that the Tories do not believe in the message that it is meant to deliver.
The message to the rest of us could not be simpler. If people want to save the planet they have to get rid of this government.
Could there be a simpler platform for common political work to achieve a goal? I doubt it. But, will it happen? Read what I wrote yesterday to note why not at present. And be afraid. The Luddites are in charge. We need change very urgently. And they are determined nothing should happen.

Even of we were to ignore climate change for a moment, the fact is that the North Sea Oil & Gas fields are pretty much worked out, and this will only postpone the inevitable by a year or two.
To me, this is just short term opportunistic electioneering bollocks to drum up votes.
And what do people think – that when the oil does run out, that the Tories will be there to help them?
Yeah right.
The Scottish Conservatives are in no position to challenge the new government’s green agenda. The majority of Scottish people are intelligent enough to see the necessity to stop oil and gas production as part of the means of delaying climate breakdown. Scottish Labour and Liberals pay lip service for the need to tackle climate change so Tory whingeing will get them nowhere as they will be completely out on a limb. This is of course if Nicholas Sturgeon does not drawback on the Green agreement. and get cowed by the English Tories.
The North Sea oil and gas technology and the work force could be redeployed on the following
1. CO2 disposal, assuming it can be made to work
2. Build, install and maintain 100’s more sea based wind farms. Especially in deep water using floating wind farms based on floating oil rigs.
3. Develop wave power generators which is currently considered too difficult. These would also mitigate storm damage from the predicted larger storms.
4. Geothermal heat and power from hot dry rocks, possible in any area with granite or very old volcanic rock. There was a trial in Cornwall many years ago but they could not keep the generated cracks open so it failed. The fracking industry has solved this problem.
Oh come on, these people arent entrepreneurs you know….. 🙂
If people want to save the planet they have to get rid of this government.
Could there be a simpler platform for common political work to achieve a goal?
I agree entirely and the basis for that unity could be campaigning for the CEE Bill, which now has the support of 114 MPs
Even if fossil fuel were eliminated, there would still be ocean dead zone’s and deforestation. Go Vegan or plant based.
