Fairly soon after the election was called last night I put a couple of polls on Twitter:
All the usual caveats apply. Of course my tweets are biased in who they reach on that site.
But, that said, the sentiments expressed were revealing.
Many will be voting with a sense of despair in this election. Few expect Labour to deliver.
It really is not encouraging, most especially if you can recall the hope of 1997. There is not a hint of that anticipation present now.

All voters could cast their votes for any party. They do not have to vote for LINO, Tory, Lib-Dem – they could just vote for an unknown – which would, more than anything put a stick in the spokes of the “business as usual” bike. They won’t, they are turkeys.
“business as usual” steamroller would be more appropriate. So many voters appear to like lying down in front of it!
Put your hand in the Lucky Dip ballot bran tub and get bitten by stinging insects about sums up the dreadful state of affairs. The voters can only blame themselves though for not delving into whether what the politicians tell them is actually true. There have been plenty of clues that they were being lied to but have chosen to ignore them in favour of shallow Neoliberal nostrums. Five years of broken Starmer Party promises and aspirations will provide a further clue. It’s anybody’s guess whether voter laziness will continue after that. Perhaps though global warming effects will stimulate their minds sufficiently to start re-thinking the childish arguments they’ve previously swallowed.
Even at this late stage there might not be an election

Be ironic if The Conservative (sic) Party caused a crisis that brought down The Monarchy
Copied directly from the top headline of The Daily Fail Online 3 minutes ago:
“Election? What election? British public reveal they’d rather be watching the Euros and enjoying the summer booze and barbecues than vote on July 4 – as one woman admits she has no idea who Rishi Sunak is”
Is this for real or is The Daily Fail just messing with its readers?
Can anyone with the right to vote be this apathetic?
They want people to be this apathetic
