A major publisher has approached me, asking that I write a book for them.
The publisher in question and I have only met once, at a literary event, but the reason for the approach was explained as follows:
These are terrible times and we need creative democratic voices.
There's a challenge to think about over the summer, on top of everything else I am doing.
Thanks for reading this post.

Arresting middle class kids for nothing is not going to end well. Of course the police are tools of the politicos which are tools of big business/oligarchs. It is certain that things will get worse under the soon to be crowned “Dear Leader” – authoritarian to his finger tips.
This is ridiculous
Richard,
Sounds like an great opportunity.
I am sure that your regulars can give you some pointers and ideas if not chapters
Take it!
Write the book!
Ok….
Yes please.
I am considering it…
Well done, Richard
Speak up for all of us. We could pool resources; I’m sure we all have our areas of expertise which might inform different chapters.
“The Widening Gyre”?
The comments here will inform chapters
But this one will be a solo voice, unlike an academic style project
and your voice is the voice to it!
Richard
I rarely make a contribution here, but I read your posts every day. I don’t often buy new books these days, but I would certainly buy yours. Please write it.
The challenge of structuring, illustrating, and making convincing the arguments that need to be made will be a fascinating task. I know you can do it. Good luck.
Thanks
I need a summer just to plan it….
Yes, please do write the book. Explaining how money really works is fundamental to protecting and enhancing democracy.
How to deliver that message is the hard bit
Please publish your ‘Glossary’ at the back of your book.
It would be way too big
Yes please,
I echo the sentiments of others exhorting you to put pen to paper and distil your thoughts into another volume.
I thoroughly enjoy reading your daily comments and also those of your regular contributors.
I don’t know where you get the time and energy from. As a former teacher in your discipline (at a much lower level), I know how busy you are. Your students are lucky to have you. Sorry if that sounds sycophantic.
Thanks
But I should add that I no longer teach and am on a pure research contract at Sheffield
Mind you, I seem to work way beyond contracted hours…
