I was on BBC Radio 5 Live this morning, talking on Nicky Campbell's show, with whom I seem to be popular.
The question that Nicky Campbell posed was whether or not the US was still our friend, and I was allowed to intervene three times, including by making the opening monologue.
My opponent was Ross Clark from the Spectator, who was singing the praises of Starmer (which shows just how far the Overton window has moved, or at least Starmer has moved). Even he could not describe the US as a friend, but his idea that fascism requires that its proponents wear military uniforms reveals just how deep the poverty of thinking around this issue is. If he is representative of the UK commentariat, God help us.
This is a clip of the interview:

Trump’s external economic stance is fascistic. While his internal economic stance is vandalism. Destroying Rome internally while trying to build an wall to protect it. It is ideological inconsistent. What matters to Trump is not what he does with power but that he has power.
Great to hear someone being so clear and plain-speaking. Improved my mood no end.
Thanks
Just saw this comment elsewhere……
“Debating a MAGA is like playing chess with a pigeon. They crap on the board, kick over all the pieces and strut around cooing like they won the game.”
I love it.
USA – always has been an enemy – before WW1. Post WW2 – UK turned into a US poodle.
Good points. USA is mad, we need to detach. Starmer and his cabinet is owned – that is why he was “measured” – his response to Mango “yes massa”.
Spectator – editor – Michael Gove. – Campbell – following the Gove line.
I tried to listen to that as objectively as possible, purely attending to the “media performance” aspect rather than the arguments/politics – Ros Clark was on the ropes, incoherent, umming and erring, floundering, searching for escape tunnels. He was hopeless. I hope Nicky Campbell has him on more often. Murphy +10, Clark minus 10.
I loved the bit about uniforms.
Thanks
