We realised last week that the introduction video on my YouTube channel was well over three years old, so we made a new one. This is it:
And there is no transcript this time: it is an introduction to the video, after all.
Remarkably few people from the blog seem to actually view these videos, even though on many days the videos now get more views than this bog gets reads. Might you give this one a go? It's not very long.
Comments are welcome, except from trolls (although they will turn up anyway, I have no doubt).
Thanks for reading this post.

Gosh! I’ve got an identical shirt on today.
Just thought the viewers would like to know that.
Best of luck. You do a great job.
Thanks…
A good, concise summary of how you are and what you are trying to do.
As a man that always watches TV with subtitles, I prefer to read the transcripts but it’s good to hear that the videos are getting watched.
Thanks Clive
I watch all your videos before looking at the corresponding blog post. If you had not made any videos I might never have found your blog.
That interesting….
Is it a generational thing?
I’d rather read. I like the transcript. I’m pushing seventy. Young ones maybe don’t read ? I read out loud to my wife. All sorts of garbage and some literature too) She loves it, but not for long before she falls asleep and I feel free to log-on here. 🙂
You may well be right
With regard to “Remarkably few people from the blog seem to actually view these videos”, I can’t speak for others, but I often prefer to read the transcript. It usually depends on how much time I have available, as I tend to read quicker than you speak; if I have the time, I will take the time to enjoy the video.
Thanks
You are definitely not alone
That said, 36,000 people have watched yesterday’s pension video, so far, most of them not coming from the blog.
I think some people just prefer reading over videos, and vice versa. I really don’t like watching videos because I can read so much faster but I’ve noticed younger people seem to prefer a visual input (I’m 50).
A clear explanation of what you are doing, perfectly pitched for new viewers.
I read your blog most days but rarely click through to videos. It’s a preference, maybe a generational one as others say. I focus on the message more with reading. Great that you reach more people by offering both though. Please keep up the good work.
Thanks
And understand
Unsurprisingly, readers come here
Amazing differences in folks’ approach.
I start with the blog, switch over to YouTube and sign on to watch the video, then switch back to the blog.
I never read the transcript – a long swatch of italic type anywhere puts me off.
I’m 79.
Would it be better if I did not put it in italics?
It would be better for me. I find italic more difficult to read.
Noted
I will change this in future
Thanks!
I have watched most of your videos.
“Labour Could Take Action Against Tax Havens” was superb and should be seen by all those who are unaware of the government’s collusion in supporting Tax Havens (especially Labour MPs) You Tube is a very imprtant medium to use and it is easy to email them to other people.
Thanks
Appreciated
I do watch your videos, but more importantly I read the comment section. I especially like it when someone does challenge your ideas, that along with the comments consolidates my understanding. Keep up the good work it is very much appreciated.
I thought I’d chip in with my ‘process’ as far as your blog is concerned. Like some others, I read the transcript (for speed and preference – I absorb it better, or if I need to, I can easily re-read a sentence) but I also click on the YouTube link, setting it off to play (on silent). Why? I want you to receive any benefit you may be due by adding to your number of views. I also share the blog and video on Facebook, LinkedIn and Mastodon (or if I spot your posts there I re-post). It’s almost as though I’ve created a little job for myself, but I want to ‘spread the word’. It feels especially important since my views are not represented in the political sphere. (Change? What change?)
I’ve hesitated to say this before, as it seems such a superficial comment, but I didn’t realise how distracting I found your checked shirts until you started to wear a plain, dark polo. I discovered I found it easier to concentrate on what you were saying (before I started my ‘silent video’ malarkey).
Also, recommendations for the visually impaired state that italics should be avoided. I don’t have that problem, but non-italic is far more accessible so I’m glad you’ve said you’ll change this. Thank you for that.
Thanks for all those comments, and for reposting
I am going to have to get some long sleeved plain shirts come the autumn
