John Oliver's US based talk show is not easily accessible, at least by me, in the UK. He did, however, do an analysis of the UK general election this week, the summary of which I can only find on Twitter right now. If you can watch it, it's worth it. But I do warn that he makes Jonathan Pie look decidedly moderate with his use of language:
John Oliver celebrates washing the Tories away on the July the 4th.

You can often find excerpts from his US show on You Tube. Always on the money. But this is brilliant – and particularly the swearing 🙂
I get all my US news from John Oliver, Stephen Colbert, and Seth Meyers, all on YouTube within hours of their late night shows. Their political satire is a much neede antidote to the mostly lunatic fringe mainstream. I wish we had the likes of them here in the UK. Pie is good, but has nowhere near the coverage.
I agree
I like their shows
Jon Stewart too.
I have to say that I rather enjoyed it – it would have been even better, if there was a chance that the next Labour government was truly inspiring. I just hope, and I mean really hope, that the Labour government moves away from the centre right after the election, and has a range of policies that move this country forward, and perhaps even rejoin the European Union.
I’m afraid Mr Colbert’s rabid unionism during the ’14, rather spoiled my taste for him.
I wondered why his show wasn’t on last night!
I am 64.Since 1979 Tory policies have had a hugely negative impact on me and my family. For example the complete neglect of social care has impacted on my adult son who has autism. He has not recovered from the impact of Covid restrictions. Downing Street partied. Other family members who work for the NHS have kept going in the face of acute funding shortages and organisational chaos. I have had to fund two surgical procedures to alleviate debilitating conditions. I am very fortunate, resourceful and resilient. Many others have been more severely impacted.
I often try to bring my posts to life be making personal references and always try to keep me posts thoughtful and balanced however the clip captured precisely how I “feel”. Spot on !
🙂
Cockwomble, what a marvellous word!
