Seems a strange thing to say as he must know many Labour people don’t see him that way-and it is not going to win him points with the Tory tabloid readers.
If he had said ‘I’m a social democrat’ and ‘I believe in a mixed economy’. Then added ‘I am in favour of more equal opportunities’, most would have just nodded and moved on.

Shocking!
The man’s an intellectual mess when it comes to anything political, that’s for sure.
As much as I don’t like the term “champagne socialist”. I concede that in this situation the title suits Kier Starmer. To be a champagne socialist, you have to self id yourself to the public that you are a socialist in a way that “socialist” isn’t being derogatory. The word “socialist” isn’t derogatory in this case because the public understands that the person self identifying themselves as a socialist isn’t really a socialist.
Why don’t Labour want socialist policies?
Because they aren’t within their fiscal rules.
Why do Labour want fiscal rules?

Substitute ‘Social Democrat’ for ‘Socialist’ as the value for the X variable and the diagram is still correct . . .
🙂
He probably meant to say socialite. In the way that JFK `Ich bin ein Berliner` said he was a jam doughnut.
