There’s none so blind as those that will not see

Accountancy Age has reported that the Tories are confused by Alistair Darling's call for a review of the off balance sheet finance of banks at the Labour Party conference.

Justine Greening, a shadow Treasury minister, said:

It's not clear what Mr Darling has in mind. We will have to wait and find out specifically what he feels should have been disclosed that would have been useful.

Well how about the risk in the Northern Rock special purpose vehicles, all of which had a mortgage trustee in St Helier, Jersey? Or those of HBOS?

For a chartered accountant who has worked as a fiance manager in a FTSE 100 company Justine Greening is either remarkably naive or, well I'll leave you to decide on the 'or'.
