There were 19,936 reads of this blog yesterday, the tenth highest ever.
If you want to know what that means it says that people in Scotland care about GERS.
And getting appropriate information.
And about being misrepresented from Westminster.
And I, for one, am glad that they do.
Thanks for reading this post.

Excellent!
It was a terrific article, Richard. Special thanks for the graph.
Your article was widely copied on several blogs which I read, not by me, and was positively received.
Your contribution to the political economy debate for an independent Scotland has been so valuable already, and I look forward to hearing your update in Glasgow next week.
I am looking forward to next week
Yes, Good work Richard.
I stay in Dundee and your blog is essential reading for us Yes campaigners Richard as you give us factual ammunition for when we get out and about again. You and your informed commentators like the guy who linked to Scotgov’s stats pages I’ve been delving into.
You are a good friend to Scotland for good reasons, more power to your elbow as we say back in NZ.
i dont think the gers industry see problems with civil servants just deciding what income/expenditure is ‘scottish’ and what is ‘uk’. for example- i dont think anyone (snp included) understand why the treasury said that it would honour uk debt including pensions to date in the event of independence
what response would i get if i submitted this:
dear esteemed sir of the financial reporting council
i followed the most state of the art statistical methodology and we are confident these accounts represent an accurate picture of my clients fiscal position. you will see they are fine as long as you think of my client, the regulatory framework and even the uk treasury as hypothetical concepts

I seriously don’t understand why GERS reports are given any credence what so ever. They were introduced by Ian Lang (then secretary of state for Scotland in 1992, by the then Tory government) with the specific propaganda purpose of undermining the fiscal argument for Scottish independence.
GERS is meaningless garbage that has no relevance to how a future independent Scotland would be governed and organised in the real world.
It astounds me that the SNP don’t rubbish them at every opportunity. It’s such an incredibly easy narrative to demolish.
I note Angus Brendan McNeil agrees with you
You’ve holed HMS GERS below the waterline , time for the Scottish Government to officially declare it a total wreck . Even Andrew Wilson seems to be losing faith in the crippled rust bucket . Keep firing the torpedoes.
Your adversary Guido just stated he gets 200k hits a day! How does he do it
My adversary?
Really?
Not that I was aware of
And not that I care
